Yamaha YSTM101
Released January, 2001
The Pros:Volume knob is big and has a predictable reaction. Simple and straight-forward setup, nothing much to it. Front headphone jack is convenient and reduces cord tangle.
The Cons:A bit oversized for desktop speakers and easy to knock over. Not capable of being very loud, max volume is still pretty low. No real bass representation at all.
The Yamaha YSTM101 is a speaker set perfect for a computer system. It is compatible with all operating systems and processors, it just needs an audio output jack to connect through. The speakers have magnetic shielding to make sure that the internal mechanisms do not affect the video display for any device, nor interfere with the hard drives or any other magnetic storage media.

On the speakers themselves there is a headphone output jack. When headphones are plugged into the front of the speakers they automatically mute while the amplifier drives the sound through the headphones with greater quality than the sound card could do on its own. The Yamaha YSTM101 comes in two colors, Platinum White and Calypso Black. Since the YSTM101 was released in 2001, this is a product you can buy used and cheaper than others as new models do not seem to be prominently for sale.
