Hercules XPS 2.0 60

$97.24 Released February, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Surprisingly good sound quality for such a basic set of speakers. Remarkable bass performance even without a subwoofer. Can handle really high volumes with minimal distortion.

The Cons:A lot bulkier than most competing desktop speakers in this price range. Cheap, plasticky build quality.

The Hercules XPS 2.0 60 are a pair of compact multimedia speakers. These are higher powered than the Hercules XPS 2.0 40 Slim at a total peak power of 60 watts, and are constructed with a more box-like body to allow sound to resonate for a richer tone and better bass representation.

The wood casing is finished in a piano black glossy finish, and has a metal mesh along the front to protect the drivers. Bass Reflex Technology uses an open port at the front to allow lower frequency sounds resonating in the case to come out, and a similar rear-facing port takes advantage of surrounding walls by further resonating sound from them. Line in and headphones connectors are built into the speaker itself, as are knobs for volume, bass, and treble.
